Virtues of Grace &
Laws of the Court

Last Updated: 9.14.2024

The Court of the Spires does not believe in StarClan. Instead, they believe that each cat gains Grace throughout their life by completing great acts. Those who have become truly Graceful retire to the Court of Grace upon their death, while those who still have Grace to earn are reincarnated into a role based on their accumulated Grace. The Court of Grace was founded by the first Sovereign of the Court of the Spires, Sovereign Wave.

Sovereigns are not given extra lives by the Court of Grace, but instead given knowledge. It is a painful process, but they are given the whole truth of every Sovereign that came before them. However; this knowledge is not easily recalled. It often presents as headaches, calling cats by their ancestors name, or intense deja vu when they come across an event that another Sovereign has lived through before.

Virtues of Grace
[attr="class","box3"]
The Virtues of Grace are established by the Court of the Spires as a set of tenets to guide their way of life. They are most often referenced as tenants to hold yourself to, and are included in the retelling of stories or in important ceremonies.

Loyal Heart: A cat must have absolute and unwavering fidelity to the Court, its Sovereign, and its ideals. We place the needs of others before our own, and maintain steadfast allegiance to the Sovereign even in the face of adversity.

Courageous Claw: Unwavering bravery in the face of danger is what makes for a Courageous Claw. A cat strives to protect the weak, and the Court, even if it costs their life.

Benevolent Paw: A cat that is patient, kind, and giving will be given the same courtesy. We must have empathy and compassion for all creatures.

Judicious Eyes: The Sovereign may be the judge, but the cats of the Court are the jury. This requires intelligence, wisdom, and observation.

Steady Spine: The Realm provides challenges that the Court must overcome and these require resilience, perseverance, self-discipline, and integrity.

Laws of the Court
[attr="class","box3"]
The Laws of the Court decree the daily functions of the Court. They are to be adhered to and followed without question.

01. The royal line of Redspire Sovereigns is believed to always be Graceful, therefore the Sovereign will always be a Redspire.

02. The sanctity of the crown is a reflection of the Court of Grace, therefore it must never be questioned.

03. The cats of the Court will be split into two ranks, Knights to protect the Court, and Rangers to feed the Court.

04. Kits cannot be made into squires until they are 6 moons old.

05. Squires will test into either Knights or Ranger Squires three moons before their formal graduation. Once this test is complete, they are allowed to partake in the Festival.

06. Courtship cannot begin until both cats can participate in the Festival.

07. Knight or Ranger Squires may officially declare their fealty to the Sovereign once they have completed a daring feat.

08. Those looking to union must perform the feat of each Namesake to determine which name will move forward.

09. Borders and the castle are to be defended with one's life.

10. Outsiders are not looked upon favorably until they prove their devotion to the Court and complete a daring feat.

11. We must be skillful and fair in the pursuit of prey to respect the balance of nature.

Court Culture
[attr="class","box3"]
Last Updated: 9.14.2024

The Court of the Spires is a long-standing group of cats with deep rooted traditions. Their home, a decrepit castle on the rocky sea shore, reflects their rich history. Storytelling and seasonal festivals are integral to their culture, to foster a deep connection to their past and to each other while ensuring their traditions endure.

Key Features
[attr="class","box3"]

→ The Court of the Spires names follow the pattern: Title Nickname of Namesake. For more info, see the Name Guide below.

→ There are seven historic namesakes aside from the Redspires that are ran by the Court's Harbingers. Sealroar, Rosebristle, Skyborn, Wolfsbane, Ravenspell, Icebreak, and Silvershark. To become part of these historic groups, please coordinate with the Harbinger of that namesake. The only way to create a character with a historic namesake will be through the chosen Harbinger's adoption line, litters, or marriages developed through roleplay.

→ You are encouraged to make up your own namesake! Namesakes are always correlated with a grand story about an amazing feat. The older the name, the more the original story has been warped over time and exaggerated. You may create a namesake that is up to 500 moons old. Historic namesakes are older than 500 moons.

Squires wear a white cloth around their neck to denote them as such. These white pieces of cloth are reused over the years, unless a Squire passes before graduating, in which case it is buried with them.

When graduating, each rank gets it's own colored cloth, red for the royal Redspires, green for the herb-using Clerics, blue for the defending Knights, and yellow for the hunting Rangers. These are referred to as the character's banner

Only cats who have passed their Squire Crossroads can attend the Court Festivals. This means your character has to be at least 13 moons to participate, and should have completed their Squire Crossroads first.

Court Titles & Namesakes
[attr="class","box3"]
The Court of the Spires names follow the pattern: Title Nickname of Namesake.
→ The title is their role within the Court of the Spires.
→ The nickname follows a traditional clan prefix. Ex: Eagle, Blue, Berry
→ The namesake is determined from the bloodline, with “of the Spires” being used for found kits, or newcommers.
→ There are seven historic namesakes aside from the Redspires that are ran by the Court's Harbingers. To become part of these historic groups, please coordinate with the Harbinger of that namesake. The only way to create a character with a historic namesake will be through the chosen Harbinger's adoption line, litters, or marriages developed through roleplay.
→ When a cat performs a particularly amazing feat, the leader will choose to bestow upon them a new namesake, Ex: Foxslayer, or Knight Eagle of Harespeed
→ You are encouraged to make up your own namesake! Namesakes are always correlated with a grand story about an amazing feat. The older the name, the more the original story has been warped over time and exaggerated. You may create a namesake that is up to 500 moons old. Historic namesakes are older than 500 moons.
→ When two cats are married, a tournament is held between them to determine which namesake will continue. The competitions are always related to the feat that earned the namesake.

Court Titles

→ Sovereign: This is the Court of Grace chosen leader of the Court. They arrange patrols, advise on major issues, and confer with their own personal Court that is made up of the current Heir/Regent and the Cleric.
→ Heir/Regent: Next in line for the throne should the Sovereign die or step down. Deputy equivalent.
→ Royal: The Family of the Crown. This is an extra suffix appended to those who are of Royal descent. Their names are patterned: Royal Title Nickname of Namesake (ex: Royal Knight Spider of Redspire) In a casual setting, the Royal suffix is appended to their Nickname, so for example: Royal Spider.
→ Cleric: The healer and religious guider of the Court, the Cleric mixes herbs into poultices and interprets dreams and signs from the Court of Grace.
→ Knights: The Knights of the Court are known for their chivalry and courage throughout the lands, as a formidable defense network within their territory. The Knights train rigorously through extensive collaborative drills regardless of their age. These drills are attributed as the reason why their success rate in dangerous battles remains unmatched. They guard the Spires and their territory with a cool-headed ferocity, and do their best to be proactive in their roles. This includes rooting out dangerous animals when necessary and serving as guards on patrols.
→ Rangers: Rangers are in charge of bringing home prey for the Court, and most often hunt alone. On rare occasions they will request a patrol of Knights to take with them to hunt something larger, typically a large prey animal that is either injured or elderly. It is considered a rite of passage for a Ranger to participate in a hunt with Knights. Rangers patrol borders and scout out the best locations to hunt on any given day. They are quick and know the territory by heart. In battle they may use stealth and aid the Knights’ frontal attacks. Rangers are taught how to swim and are proficient in water tactics and aquatic hunting.
→ Knight/Hunter Squire: The title for a squire after they have completed their crossroads and are in their last season of their squireship.
→ Squire: Those who are in training to become a higher rank within the Court. They are usually given both a Ranger and a Knight mentor to learn both, with the exception being the Cleric Squire who is only trained by the Cleric.
→ Kittenward: A cat who is nursing or taking care of kits
→ Kit: Cats younger than 6 moons.
→ Sage: A cat who has retired from their duties and now lives a life of rest.

Court Seasonal Festivals
[attr="class","box3"]
The Court celebrates a festival during the first moon of each season that is hosted by one of the historic families. Each of these begins with the Squire Crossroads at the Tidalcrown if there are squires of age, and then the respective family takes over festivities. Only cats who have gone through their Crossroads or reached 16 moons may participate.

🌼 → Blooming Festival: This festival is a tradition that is hosted by the historic Rosebristle family in the Songbird Garden during the first moon of Spring, the Worm Moon. As the realm awakens from its winter slumber, the aptly named festival celebrates the growing herbs, abundant fauna, and blossoming love. Each attending cat is instructed to weave a crown of greenery for themselves, select a flower (or two), and then to give the bloom to whoever they want something to blossom with. Throughout the night cats mingle, and the head of each namesake gathers to gossip and boast about their growing families. Cats with already established matches usually exchange flowers ahead of time, and wear the flowered crown throughout the evening.

🎇 → Glowlight Festival: At the beginning of greenleaf, the sunset skies above the Lily Pond are filled with fireflies and the Silvershark's hosts the Glowlight Festival. The cats are split up into Royals, Rangers, Knights, Clerics, Sages, and Squires for this festival and the goal is to gather the most fireflies into their rank’s ceremonial jar. By the time the sky is dark, the group with the most caught fireflies is rewarded with first choice of the freshkill pile for the next moon. It is an opportunity for the ranks to work together and form bonds with one another, and don’t worry - the fireflies are let go at the end of the evening. The Court gathers by the shore at night afterwards to enjoy the bioluminescent waves that traditionally mark the start of greenleaf.

🍂 → Crown Festival: During the first moon of leaffall, Fall Moon, the salmon begin to run inland and the Redspires host the Crown Festival. It takes place at the turbulent river that leads to the Sovereign’s Arch, with the goal being to gather in pairs or groups to catch the largest salmon you can. In the evening a feast is held beneath the stars with what has been caught, and each group gets to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The group to catch the largest is given the following week off of their normal duties to spend time with each other as a reward for a job well done, and a ceremonial piece of antler about a half a tail-length long is held by the winning group until the next Crown Festival.

🧊 → Ice Festival: Hosted by the historic Icebreak family, this festival is held at the very start of winter, as soon as the smallest tidal pools of Sharkfin coast freeze over during the Cold Moon. At this festival, a getting to know each other game is played called Breaking the Ice. Cats are paired up together by the host, must jointly press their front paws onto the fragile ice surface of the pools, and converse until the ice is broken! Depending on how long each round lasts, multiple are had until the sun sets. With wet paws and newly formed connections, they return to the Court of the Spires and share tongues with their namesake or familial group.

Historical Namesakes
[attr="class","box3"]
Redspire

(Reserved for the Royal family)
From the Depths to New Heights

The Spires were once submerged in sea, desiccated by salt, and destroyed by waves in a terrible three-day storm. In terror, the cats Grace had cared for fled for the trees, returning only when the rains subsided. They found their beloved Spires now conquered by the waves and a fearsome beast, the dreaded octopus known only as Redtendril. Though the clowder attempted to settle near the sea, Redtendril would not abide their invasion. He took the life of a young kit known only as Dandelion in retaliation. Unable to sit by idly any longer, a brave she-cat known as Wave swam into the sea, dragging Redtendril from the stones he clung to, and brought him to the sands where he found no mercy. The fight wore on from dawn till dusk, leaving Wave a battered mess. But still, she persevered and slayed the beast. As the fight wore on, the sea began to retreat, until their home had once again been uncovered. As Wave looked on in victory, a strange sight caught her eye. The waters uncovered a secluded grotto tucked under the roots of a massive tree, and though exhausted and bloodied, she felt the first calling of their ancestors. Try as they might to call after her, Wave ignored the pleas of her clowdermates and rushed down the shoreline to the place now known as the Tidalcrown. There she collapsed on top of one of the exposed white roots and fell into a deep slumber. When she woke, she spoke of a visit to the Court of Grace, where all cats can be at peace if they reach it. In honor of her heroic deeds, the clowder chose to give her the name Redspire, and urged her to lead them. She took her place as the first Sovereign, Sovereign Wave of Redspire, and formed the Court of the Spires after the previous Lord’s court. It is said that so long as a Redspire holds the throne, the sea will never return. The Redspires of today are known as much for their swimming and agile climbing abilities as they are for their grandiose sense of self. They can be as sweet as summer honey, and as vicious as a sharptooth, all in the same breath. However, they still strive to embody every Virtue of Grace, and are incredibly religious. They highly value their traditions, and each Redspire is given a healthy upbringing of history to guide their paws in a graceful direction.This staunch holding to their roots has not made them inherently exclusionary, but rather has fueled their passion to teach others of the wonders of Grace and her virtues.

Sealroar

(Generally a Cleric Family)
Our Voice is Louder than Death

In the days when Grace still walked the halls of the Spires, the first Cleric, Tansy, spent their days in the apothecary, learning all they could about the strange spices and concoctions Grace created. This strange fascination with berries and leaves led to a collected knowledge of healing, a power held by few other cats. As this talent grew, so did the desire to learn all they could about the land and plants around them. It was on one of these fateful herb-gathering trips that they encountered the largest seal any cat had seen on their land. Instead of turning in fear from the fearsome beast, Tansy stood their ground, opening their jaws in a mighty roar that shook the trees themselves. This earned Tansy the name of Sealroar, one that went paw in paw with the term “healer”. As one of the oldest families of the Spire, others naturally looked to them for guidance upon the rising of the Court of Spires. However, the true skills of the Sealroars lay in their knowledge of herbs and love of the apothecary. Calm in the face of death itself and staunch believers in those who came before them, these Clerics hold life in their paws. They find this to be their sacred duty and shun those who do not hold their faith as highly as they do - whether that be faith in their skills or in the Court of Grace.

Rosebristle

(Generally a Cleric Family)
Strength in Every Stem

The Rosebristle lineage is one of the oldest established Cleric families. Their interest in growing and tending to herbs and fauna is a trait specific to them. The legends speak about one ordinary day where Petal - a quiet and unlikely she-cat - went on a stroll, not knowing her fate would change forever and shape the destiny of the Rosebristle name. Petal had heard the legend of a beautiful flushing pink rose that grew in the wild with the healing capabilities to cure even the sickest of cats. No cat in the Realm had ever laid eyes on the fabled flower. Petal had gone on such sort missions before, scouting the territory high and low for any signs of this miracle plant. On the day she found it, the wind was so strong and it was howling through the lands with such fury, Petal wasn’t sure she would make it back without being blown straight off of her paws. Buried in a protected and discreet thorny thicket was a small clump of the pink rose, to which Petal braved lacerations to extract a few stems to bring home to the castle with her. Ever since then, Rosebristle were given their name to herald the bravery of Petal who risked not returning on her arduous travel to the flower’s elusive hiding place. The descendants of Rosebristle tend to be on the kinder and more demure side - their nature is typically unassuming and compassionate. They are rarely pushed into conflict.

Skyborn

(Generally a Ranger Family)
The Sky’s the Limit

The Skyborn boasts itself as one of the original, true Ranger families in the Court. Legend says that there was once a giant, legendary falcon that preyed on kittens and squires. The first of their name was once such a kitten, stolen off not long after being born, but this one lived to tell the tale. He somehow survived jumping out of the giant’s nest thousands of feet high. He later grew up to be such an impressive jumper it is said he was capable of flying, spending more time airborne than grounded. He eventually slayed his childhood nemesis by leaping off a sheer cliff and riding the bird to exhaustion. He was given the namesake Skyborn and the family is said to have been perfecting the hunt of aerial creatures since then. Unsurprisingly, the Skyborn today still shows a particular talent in jumping and agility. They are an extremely proud but obnoxiously pretentious bloodline easily identifiable by their prominent spots and lithe, lanky limbs. As with their name, Skyborns look to the sky with utmost vigilance, and nowadays they are extremely religious and devout about achieving Grace. As such, they have high expectations of each other in their careers, and it is considered an immense disappointment for a Skyborn to not excel in their duties.

Wolfsbane

(Generally a Knight Family)
Fear Cuts Deeper than Claws

The Wolfsbane are an ancient lineage of stocky felines that boast themselves to be the best and most fearless Knights. Long ago, the Court was plagued by a new threat - a pack of huge wolves intruding on their territory. One cat named Boulder decided he had enough after losing his mate and kits to the pack; he sought bloody revenge. In a fearsome fight, he single-handedly brought down the giant lead wolf with pitch black fur. Many other Knights tried to interfere or help him, but the wolf was too strong for them and only Boulder prevailed. Some said he yowled so loudly and fought so fearsomely it was like he was part-wolf himself. In the end, the pack leader fell. The remaining wolves fled with such urgency that the pups were left stumbling behind. However, despite the wails of the mother wolves, Boulder told his companions to show no mercy, as the wolves had never spared their kittens. The fearsome Boulder earned the name Wolfsbane, first of his name. Today the Wolfsbane remain strong and loyal, albeit a bit stubborn and intimidating. They generally tout large, muscular frames and long fur. True to the tales, some of them end up merciless, but cats of the Court know that their cruelty only speaks to how far they are willing to go to defend their home. The Wolfsbane pride themselves in being the reason that Court Knights are so unanimously feared across the territories.

Ravenspell

(No rank predisposition)
Everywhere and Ever Vigilant

The Ravenspell is a rather unassuming name at first glance, which is exactly what this namesake strives to be. A bloodline of generally dark-pelted cats, they are masters of espionage. While not decidedly Knights or Rangers, their members serve equally in both fronts. There was once a time when the Court was quite vulnerable, and one of the aggressive, greedy Clan leaders decided to drive the Court from the territory once and for all. One crafty molly named Shadow took matters into her own hands. Under the guise of a rogue, she seduced the Clan leader, who unknowingly revealed his battle plans. Before the big attack, Shadow sent a message to the Court by disrupting the border and sending an ominous flock of startled ravens into the air. Shadow herself then surrounded the Clan warriors with a crafty flank and humiliated her fake lover. There was much controversy surrounding Shadow’s return and whether or not she really deserved a reward, for her feat was that of trickery rather than skill. In the end, she was still given the namesake Ravenspell, but to this day, the name carries an infamous and sly reputation. The stereotypical Ravenspell is thought to be observant and intelligent but also two-faced and self-serving. At times, their loyalty might even be questioned. Nevertheless, it is said that there isn’t a rumor in the forest that the Ravenspell do not know.

Icebreak

(Generally a Knight Family)
Sharp as Shattered Ice

The Icebreak line carries an impressive lineage dating back to the first days of the Court’s existence. This family prides themselves on their long-established reputation as Knights. When the Court of Spires was still in its infancy, a blizzard like none had seen struck their land. The winds howled for days on end, and the sun and stars were lost in the blinding fury of sleet. So low did the temperatures dip that the entire ocean froze over, hard as rock. Unable to access that lifeline of fish and waterfowl, the Court’s members began to go hungry. Soon, the howls of hunger joined the wind. One handsome Knight, his fur as white as snow and eyes such a pale blue they looked more like ice, ran to the frozen wasteland. Once there, he reared back on his back paws and came down, bashing his claws into the surface. For five nights and days straight he toiled, an endless machine until there was a loud crack of the ice giving way. The sound heard for miles, it was what gave the Knight the name of Icebreak. These cats prospered in the halls of the castle, thriving in the trappings of their station. Today’s descendants aim to be just as impressive as their ancestor, enjoying the finer things in life while making sure not a long hair is out of place. Long-furred, large, and with startlingly bright-colored eyes, these cats cut a striking figure. As looks are valued amongst this family, it is no surprise that so many of them become canny matchmakers as they try their best to meet the standards set by those who started their great family. Running on gossip and whispers, these guards are in their element during the Snow Festival, bringing cheer to an otherwise dour season with the promise of love by newleaf.

Silvershark

(Generally a Ranger Family)
Glory in the Glowing Waves

The Silversharks are another ancient lineage in the Court of the Spires. Their bloodline has typically followed the Ranger path, with nearly unmatched prowess in the water. They are introduced to the sea as young kits to gain early affinity with their shorelines. Their teachings focus on aquatic hunting and water-based combat. It is said that the first Silvershark named Firefly guided the cats out of the ancient storm that struck the castle, and that she used her agility in the water to save lives from the dangerous storm surge. Firefly’s silvery pelt was likened to a sleek shark slipping through the waves, and the namesake was born. After the storm ended and the cats gathered later that night, fireflies took to the air and the water danced with bioluminescent light. It was such a glorious sight that the beginnings of the Glowlight festival was formed. It was celebrated in some form every season-cycle, and evolved to its current present day iteration. Silversharks are lithe and swift cats with muted pelt tones that tend to blend into water. They are an honest bloodline and will always make the choices that save the most lives. They are seldom moved to aggression—but strike deadly and true once provoked, emerging from the depths as quickly as they disappear into it.

Traditions & Ceremonies
Last Updated: 9.14.2024

The Court of the Spires has a different way of doing most things than the Court. For specific differences, we recommend especially reading the Plunge ceremony, the Crossroads ceremony, and the Squire Trials. All ceremonies begin with a gathering of the Court, which is call done by the Sovereign: "From the depths to the heights, all seafaring cats of the Court are summoned to the throne!"

Table of Contents

[attr="class","box3"]
The Trial of Wave: Coming of Age Ceremony [ Kit ➜ Squire ]
Kits of the Court never leave the safety of the Spires until they reach six moons old. Before they become a Squire, they must first take the Plunge; an act of great bravery. They climb the shortest of the Spires, closest to shore, and after receiving a blessing from the Sovereign, they must leap from the spire into the ocean below and swim to shore just as the original Sovereign Wave of Redspire herself did. The swim is a short one, and mostly used to test the fortitude of the cats of the Court. The rest of the Court waits on the shore, where a short ceremony takes place in the naming of the mentors for each Squire, and then the newly named Squires are given the day to explore the territory near the Spires under the safe and watchful eye of the Court.

→ The Blessing:May you go with grace into the realm beyond, and let the waves guide you to your future.” - Words said by the Sovereign, and usually followed by a ceremonial pressing of the Sovereign’s nose to the kit’s forehead.

→ The Ceremony:We give thanks for the Grace that has brought you to our shores. May the Virtues of Grace guide your heart, and the Laws of the Court guide your paws as you grow into a member of our Court. You shall be led by Knight x, who will teach you how to defend our Court, and by Ranger y, who will teach you how to feed our Court.” These words are said by the Sovereign, and then the Sovereign ties a well-worn piece of white cloth around the Squire’s neck to denote them as such. These white pieces of cloth are reused over the years, unless a Squire passes before graduating, in which case it is buried with them.

Cleric Squire Ceremony [ Kit ➜ Cleric Squire ]
The Cleric Squire must undergo the same Plunge as the rest of the Squires, but unlike the others who are welcomed and celebrated on the shore, the Cleric Squire must complete one last feat. Before they leave the Spires, they are given a herb to memorize its scent, its taste, and its appearance. They must then search out to find it themselves from shore and bring it back to the Cleric. If they fail to do so before the sun sets, it is considered a sign from the Court of Grace that they are unready, and they are instead made into a regular Squire. If they succeed though, they are taken that very night to the Tidalcrown and meet with the ancestors for the first time.

→ The Ceremony: The Cleric sits beneath the Tidalcrown and addresses the Squire, “We give thanks for the Grace that has brought you to our shores, and placed you on the path of healing. Borders do not bind us, but the Virtues of Grace must guide our heart, and the Laws of the Court must guide your paws. Do you promise to uphold the Virtues of Grace and to put the health of all cats before yourself and the Court for the rest of your days?” Then the squire responds, “I pledge all of me to the path of the Cleric,” “May you go with Grace, Cleric Squire Name of Namesake!” Then the Cleric gives the new Squire their white cloth, and guides them to rest amongst the roots of the Tidalcrown and meet with their ancestors for the first time.

[attr="class","box3"]Squire Crossroads [ Squire ➜ Knight/Ranger Squire ]
Squires are members of the Court who have yet to pledge their fealty to the Sovereign and who have to first prove themselves worthy of the Court through rigorous training. They are given two mentors, one Ranger and one Knight, who work as a pair to impart their knowledge upon them. In the first moon of their last season as a Squire, they are required to speak with one Sage from each rank before the full moon. On the evening of the full moon, that season’s Festival begins first at the Tidalcrown where the Squires announce which path they have chosen to take. They finish out the last of their training with the mentor of whatever rank they chose.

→ The Ceremony: The Sovereign calls the Squires forward, “Squire Name of Namesake, stand beneath the Tidalcrown, and choose which path you will take at this crossroads.” to which the Squire replies “I walk the path of the Ranger/Knight,” and the Sovereign finishes it with, “Then let the season test your mettle and prove you worthy of such a title. May [mentor name] guide you well,

Squire Assessment [ Knight/Ranger/Cleric Squire ➜ Knight/Ranger ]
Squires are the future generation of the Court. Their training prepares them for their Squire Assessment, which is the most arduous challenge they face in their young lives. The trials Squires perform are intended to embody the Virtues of Grace. Each title completes a Trial specific to them, and they all compete in one final group activity known as the Retrieval at the end of the Season.

→ Knight Trial: The Knight Squires must prove themselves by sparring with one cat they’ve selected and one cat their mentor has. These two duels are judged by the Sovereign and the Heir/Regent, and if they find the Knight Squire has fought honorably, the Sovereign will pronounce them as a Knight.
→ Ranger Trial: The Ranger Squires must prove themselves by hunting two of the nuisances that still feed the Clan, a beaver, and an octopus. Both are dangerous foes, and the hunting is carefully watched by the Ranger Squire’s mentor and the Sovereign. The Ranger Squire has two full days to complete the task, and if they do so, the Sovereign will pronounce them as a Ranger.
→ Cleric Trial: The Cleric Squires must prove themselves by traveling to the two Clans and bartering with their Medicine Cats to gain herbs that are specific to each Clan and bring them home to the Court before the last full moon of the season. If they do so, the Sovereign will pronounce them as a Cleric.
→ The Retrieval: Squires must climb to the top of the Spires where remnants of banners are retrieved. These banners are used as a symbol of their title and are worn around the neck. Red for the royal Redspires, green for the herb-using Clerics, blue for the defending Knights, and yellow for the hunting Rangers.

→ The Ceremony: When a squire completes their trial, they will present in front of the Throne. The Sovereign will call the Court to gather, and then the Sovereign will regale the Court with the story of the trial. The words, “Title Squire Name of Namesake will from now on be known as Title Name of Namesake! Your [Virtue of Grace] will prove to be an invaluable gift to the Court of the Spires. May you go with Grace,” are spoken by the Sovereign to end the ceremony. The Court responds with, “May you go with Grace, Title Name of Namesake!” as the Sovereign blesses the cat by pressing their nose to the location correlated to the virtue. The center of their chest for a Loyal Heart, their right paw for a Courageous Claw, their left paw for a Benevolent Paw, their forehead for Judicious Eyes, and their back for a Steady Spine.

The Ascension to Heir/Regent
The Heir to the Court’s throne is chosen by the Sovereign. The Heir is generally from one of the Sovereign’s litters, specifically the kit who is believed to be best suited to the role. If the current Sovereign does not have kits, then a sibling’s kit may be chosen. If there is no kit available to be the Heir, or the chosen Heir is too young, then a Regent from the Redspire bloodline temporarily stands in place. The Heir is taught by the current Sovereign or Regent on all Court matters, in addition to having Knight and Ranger mentors. This includes Knight and Ranger teachings, the past and present of the Redspire bloodline, border policy, and all the qualities necessary to become a future Sovereign.

→ The Ceremony: The Sovereign calls the Court to gather at the throne. “Our throne must always host a Redspire to keep the sea at bay. Today we continue that tradition by naming Royal Name of Redspire as Heir/Regent of our beloved Court, as they are truly Graceful. Do you Royal Name promise to pledge your knowledge, strength, and everlasting love to the Court of the Spires above all else, even in the face of death?” “I pledge all of me to the Court of the Spires, and to the Court of Grace,” “You shall now be known as Heir/Regent Name of Redspire! May you go with Grace,” - and the Court replies with “May you go with Grace, Heir/Regent Name of Redspire!” and a small feast is held.

Sovereign Crowning Ceremony
The Sovereign is not given extra lives by the Court of Grace, but given knowledge. It is a painful process, but they are given the whole truth of every Sovereign that came before them. However, this knowledge is not easily recalled. It often presents as headaches, calling cats by their ancestor’s name, or intense deja vu when they come across an event that another Sovereign has lived through before. They are plagued by vivid dreams of the history of the Court of the Spires. Each Sovereign would start as an Amateur at Recalling, an ability that only they have to test their ability to recall historical events accurately.

→ The Ceremony: When a new Sovereign is to be named, the Heir or Regent will go to the Tidalcrown and sleep atop the sea bleached roots. As they fall asleep, they will enter the Court of Grace where they will visit with the ancestors who have achieved Grace. The previous Sovereigns starting with the first and all the way to the most recent impart their knowledge on the new one by touching noses. It is a painful process, and at the end the Court of Grace chants their new name. They awake generally with a vicious headache, and only partial recollection of the event. The Cleric usually goes with the Sovereign to the Tidalcrown, but they do not share the same dream. They return to the Court of the Spires and hold a feast in honor of the new Sovereign.

New Namesake Ceremony
When a cat has completed an impressive feat that showcases the Virtues of Grace in a spectacular way, the Sovereign will deem that cat worthy of a departure from their parent’s namesake in honor of their own new name. Some Sovereigns are more lyrical in their naming than others, but all are patterned after the story of the origin of the name.

→ The Ceremony: The Sovereign gathers the Court, and calls the cat forward. “Title Name of Namesake, you have shown true grace today with your actions. You have …. [story here]. This has shown that you truly have [Virtue of Grace] and are worthy of a new Namesake. From now on you will be known as Title Name of [new]Namesake! May you go with Grace,” to which the Court replies, “May you go with Grace, Title Name of Namesake!

Sage Ceremony
Sages are retired Knights, Rangers, and Clerics that have fulfilled their duty to the Court and its Sovereign. They are usually older cats full of wisdom and experience, and they live the remainder of their lives in comfort and with the great respect from the Court. They keep the banner they had in their younger years.

→ The Ceremony: When a cat is ready to become a Sage, they must inform the Sovereign. Then, the Sovereign calls the Court to gather around the throne. “Title Name of Namesake has gracefully served the Court and has earned their rest. In return for your service, we shall give you shelter, food, and whatever else you may need the rest of your days. May you go with Grace, Sage Name of Namesake! We only ask for one thing - your stories.” Following this, the Court repeats the phrase 'May you go with Grace, Sage Name of Namesake', and then gathers around to ask questions of the new Sage and hear their stories.

Vigil
When a cat of the Court has passed, the Court as a whole goes into mourning. The family of the deceased display the body in the courtyard, adorned with leaves, shells, and stones. After paying respects is completed, the Cleric helps the family bury the body. The banner worn around their neck is laid across their chest during burial. Once the body is buried, the family members climb to the top of the Spires and spend the night as close to the stars as possible.

Romantic Relationships
To the Court, a great romance between a fortuitous group is something for all to honor. They celebrate two milestones for blossoming love: the first is the Acceptance, and the second is the Tournament. Romantic relationships within the Court are generally formed between cats who share love for one another, though certain Namesakes have been known to encourage specific Acceptances based on a cat's Namesake alone, or for their great deeds.

→ The Accepted & Acceptances: When a group is ready to make their match official, the oldest cat will invite the other(s) to a meaningful location, and present the other(s) with a gift. Gifts are usually sparkling rocks, beautiful shells, or another interesting item that is long-lasting. The ceremonial words are, "Will you accept me as yours alone?" to which the other(s) reply, "I accept you as mine.” Then, the couple begins to plan their Tournament, which usually takes place within three moons.

→ The Tournament of Names: A tournament is held to determine whose namesake will be taken on by all involved cats and their offspring. The feats they must participate in are related to the feats of their namesake. The cat who excels at each feat will have their namesake passed on. Alternatively, if the namesake is Historic, that name is automatically passed on, and the tournament proceeds as a symbolic one. At the end of the Tournament, the group is presented with a woven cord created by those in the Court who support their love and this is used as the foundation of their familial nest. Cats grouped in this way often refer to each other as their wovenmate.
