SPARROW OF RAVENSPELL

the court of spires ∙ knight ∙ he/him ∙ 48 moons

Appearance
A smaller than average brown tabby with pale eyes.
Whereas the typical Ravenspell may be as black as their namesake, Sparrow takes after his forename with shades of brown that make up his coat. He is a quite good looking tomcat all things considered, he is an inch or two smaller at the shoulder than other tomcats, but grooms himself well and takes pride his appearance. he has no visible scarring, managing to avoid picking up any injuries in his career, attributed to his tendencies to watch and wait.

Personality
+ OBSERVANT & INTELLIGENT | +/- WITHDRAWN & STOIC | - MISTRUSTING AND SECRETIVE

The Ravenspell family are an old family, and Sparrow is someone who stands a paw into it and a paw out.

He fits the typical bill of a Ravenspell being intelligent and guarded, someone who watches and waits. He is not an active cat, but instead someone that tries to know all that he can. In another life, he would have made an excellent cleric but instead he finds himself the role of a knight. His approach to knighthood is non-typical, focusing on learning the territory and using it to win his battles and defend. His battle technique revolves around picking holes in his opponents rather than any strength or skill on his own behalf.

Sparrow holds the entire court at paw's length, refusing to let them know him personally. He is a quiet person who is content to watch and wait, but at the same time has strong opinions and will not hesitate to share them with other cats. He speaks well; having an easy confidence and charisma that is completely understated but manages to carry a certain gravitas.

Sparrow is a man of contradictions, blood of a traitor and the name of the schemers. Sparrow is a schemer too, but he wants to mark that he might be something good instead of a bane. It remains to be seen whether his convictions will make him a traitor too.

Plotting, History, & Relations
PLOT INTEGRATION:
• The Harbringer of Judgement: Sparrow is someone who resists being labelled as a traitor and genuinely wishes to use his intelligence for the good of the Spires. The question is, will he judge the Sovereign and Heir worthy of his loyalty or deem that there is a better path, treading on the same traitorous path as his father for the perceived good of the Spire.
• Sparrow is known as the son of a traitor, and a potential traitor as his mother. He has endured his fair share of torment for this and finds himself burying the resentment at the treatment. He must prove that there's a reason why he decided to stay with the Spire.

FAMILY:
- Brook of Ravenspell - father, missing and exiled from the clan
- Cherry of Spires - mother, a recent addition to the Spires that disappeared shortly before the exile of Brook, leading to many people suspecting that she was always a part of the rogue group

- two unnamed siblings, potentially ufa

HISTORY:
The first-born of his siblings, Sparrow was not an adventurous young boy but would often spend time with his father, Brook in the gardens. Brook had an interest in herbs and their uses, believing that each cat should know plants that may one day save or end their lives. Sparrow found that he was far more interested in the introverted notions of study than anything else - preferring to listen and observe than be involved with other kittens.

Even as a squire, Sparrow's luck did not get any better. He was assigned to Kite - a loud and brash cat that wanted to push Sparrow to come out of his shell. Sparrow resisted every attempt, often complaining to his more introverted family members that he didn't understand why he had to be a knight, why he couldn't simply stay in the court and study herbs like the Cleric's did. Kite laughed in his face; every child wanted to be a knight, and if stopped sulking about it, maybe he would find something that he liked about being a knight.

He tried.

There was things that he found that he liked, in time. he learnt from other members of his family that were rangers, but instead taught him that there were ways to fight that didn't rely on brute strength. He was a clever cat, he could wait out his opponents and watch for holes in their defenses. he could pick advantageous places to strike, better times, better places. A fight could end before it ever began, if he was smart enough.

The world could become a puzzle, and he was the finest person to solve it. As he became more involved in learning from other knights, not to become a better fighter, but instead of learn how to pick holes in their fighting and apply it to his own, he began to embrace his role as a squire more. His father was proud of him, and Sparrow, whilst never coming out his shell, had begun to find a way to carve himself out a place in the court.

Of course, when he finally found his paws, there was always something to sweep them out from under him.

When rogues tried to steal from the Court, Brook was found in the act with them - leading them into the apothecary to steal herbs. Sparrow did not know until he heard it from another cat, his father had been gravely injured in the fight and slinked off somewhere to die. Just like that, Sparrow found himself under questioning - he was a withdrawn squire that did not have many friends, and he was also someone that tried to lend a helping paw to the clerics in exchange for learning some basic first aid.

He knew his father well, and yet he never knew anything about this. He found himself being branded a traitor, or at the very least, born with the blood of the traitor. Kite had even less time for him now, deciding to "punish" the squire for his father's transgressions. Sparrow had to harden into a knight quickly, learning how to defend himself against words and claws.

When he became a knight, it did not go away. The Ravenspells were once again questioned on their loyalty, and Sparrow found himself wanting to prove the gossipers wrong. He was smart enough to know the movement of prey, to know where they should watch their borders and where they could lead predators to choke points and catch them off-guard. He would dedicate himself to the Spires.

He would keep the Spires at paw's length though. It would be wise after what they had done to him to keep his distance, hardened against the scrutiny of a group that had already decided that he was a risk before a thought even popped into his head. No matter what they said to him, he would continue to strive for the good of the Spire, and the good of himself.

He would not suffer Brook's mistakes to be taken in by a lie.
